University of Tennessee Health Science Center

Memphis, TN

WHEN

2004

Fleming Architects, in conjunction with TRO Jung/Brannen (now BRG3S) joined with the University of Tennessee to renovate and convert an existing medical building into the new Hamilton Eye Institute. The first phase of the renovation included creating a new Center for Vision Research, located on the 7th floor, which houses 15 individual research laboratories, all of which are designed to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines. The Center for Vision Research includes administrative offices and core areas for imaging and molecular biology. The second phase of renovations incorporated the addition of many new Eye Clinics on the third floor, which included a General Adult Eye Clinic, Sub-Specialty Adult Eye Clinic, Retinal Degeneration Clinic, an Ambulatory Surgery Center, and a Pediatric Eye Clinic. In the Pediatric Eye Clinic, a planetary theme was introduced and was exhibited in the lobby through the use of three-dimensional tactical surfaces, which were created especially for children with vision impairments. The second phase of the project also included a skills transfer classroom, telemedicine facility, additional offices, and a 100 seat auditorium.

“The opening of the UT Hamilton Eye Institute fulfilled the lifelong vision of Memphis ophthalmologist Ralph S. Hamilton, MD. By bringing together the finest ophthalmic physicians, scientists, educators and resources under one roof, The Hamilton Eye Institute has become a powerhouse for innovation and discovery and is poised to be a leader in ophthalmology for the next century"

COLLIERVILLE TOWN HALL

WHAT

Community Civic Center

WHERE

Collierville, TN

WHEN

2003

The Town of Collierville needed to construct a new Community Civic Center that would house the Town’s new Library and Town Hall. Fleming Architects conducted town-wide site analysis and assessment, determining that the optimum location for the new Civic Center was a site adjacent to a lake, located just north of Poplar Avenue in Collierville. Fleming developed the Master Plan and provided architectural and interior design services for the Library and Town Hall. The new Town Hall houses the Mayoral and Administration offices, a 200 seat Board Chamber, and the Building and Land Planning Departments. The overall design of the facility captured the essence of the “old Collierville” architecture and incorporated state of the art building and audio/visual systems. The Civic Center not only serves as a workplace for Collierville’s leaders, but also provides Collierville residents with meeting and collaboration spaces.

"This facility is quickly becoming a source of pride and identity for the community. It truly is a reflection of the character of the town; a technologically advanced and thoroughly modern structure with a design that reflects the historical character that has defined Collierville for generations.

- James Lewellen, Collierville Town Administrator

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS HIGH SCHOOL

WHAT

High School

WHERE

East Memphis, TN

WHEN

1995-present

Over the years, Fleming Architects has designed and/or remodeled many components of the 50 acre CBHS campus, which is located in the heart of East Memphis. One of the first major projects that Fleming designed was Tom Nix Stadium, named for the legendary football coach and athletic director, Tom Nix. The stadium has been home to Christian Brothers High School football since 1996, and those driving by the campus on Friday nights can see the 4,000 seat stadium alive with the excitement of CBHS’s football tradition. Additionally, Fleming has designed the baseball stadium, an indoor practice facility, new locker room spaces, training rooms, and a gymnasium, among others. Fleming is currently designing a new Athletic Development Center, complete with locker rooms, weight room, fitness center, gymnasium, and coaches’ offices. Other projects that Fleming Architects has designed for CBHS include numerous indoor additions and renovations, classrooms, the library, cafeteria, band room, administrative and development offices and Science and Engineering spaces.

"Without question, Scott has been wonderful to work with. Architecturally, all the additions are designed to blend in with the style of the original buildings … so much so that it’s hard to distinguish between the new and the older facilities… Most importantly, I have always found Scott to be professional, fair and easy to deal with. He responds to every phone call and email, always keeps his cool, and definitely has the best interests of his clients in mind when decisions are made"

- Brother Chris Englert, President - CBHS
